Distance Learning Program

March 21, 2020

Dear El Dorado Families,

Distance learning is set to begin Monday, March 23! While we won’t be able to completely replicate the high instructional standards that our students are accustomed to receiving in their classrooms, EDPS teachers and staff have been busy developing a distance learning program that will continue to engage students, give instruction, and get us all back to a routine with some consistency and comfort during this challenging and difficult time.

Our Distance Learning Program will utilize two main platforms, Edmodo and Zoom. Both can be accessed through any computer, tablet device, or even smart phone. Apps to both platforms have been sent to all school-issued iPads and should download automatically when connected to Wi-Fi. Additional information about Edmodo and Zoom is below. Specific instructions on creating your child’s Edmodo account will come directly from your child’s homeroom teacher.

Edmodo - class management platform

  • Student lessons will be given through the use of videos created by the teachers.
  • Lessons, video links, and assignments will be easily accessible.
  • Assignments will be returned and collected through the platform.
  • Teachers, students, and parents will be able to easily communicate with each other.

Zoom – video conferencing

  • Students will have the availability to communicate live with teachers for extra support.
  • Teachers will also have the availability to host live group lessons and activities.

A copy of our Distance Learning Protocols is below. This will give parents and students rules and guidelines for learning during this time. It is important to review these with your child. There is also information for support and tips on how to help your child during distance learning.

Please note that as we begin this distance learning program, there will be some mishaps, missteps, and issues. EDPS staff has done a wonderful job pulling of this feat and being able to implement such a program for all our students in such a short amount of time. We know this program needs to be flexible and will be enhanced and improved as it gets underway.

We look forward to being able to get everyone back on campus as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we are grateful for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented situation and work to provide for your child’s continued growth and learning.

Thank you for your continued support!
