¡Saludos a todos!
It’s wonderful to be back. I
am entering my eleventh year of teaching here at El Dorado
Private School.
I teach Spanish to all of the
Kindergarten and Elementary children and thoroughly love
what I do. After graduating from Arizona State University
with a degree in Elementary Education in 1992, I
participated in an exchange program in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Two things resulted from this experience; one, I received a
bilingual endorsement on my teaching certificate and two, I
met my husband and ended up getting married and then
residing in Mexico for the next nine years.
While in Guadalajara, I taught
English to Spanish speaking students at the American School
and kept busy with four children of my own who now range in
ages from twelve to sixteen.
We moved back to the United
States in 2000 and I started to teach at El Dorado shortly
thereafter.
Why am I so enthusiastic?
Well, it is in part, because of the children’s enthusiasm
and receptiveness to the Spanish program I’ve implemented.
It is also due to what I believe I can offer each student.
You see, after nine years of not only learning a second
language, I also gained a full understanding of the
culture and tradition Mexico has to offer. As a neighboring
country, we need to know more about the people and customs
of Mexico. I hope to pass on to the children some of the
richness that this country has to offer. I hope to show
them not only the importance of learning a language that is
so needed in today’s society, but also to introduce a new
culture in the process.
¡Hasta pronto!
