Art Program
The art program at El Dorado Private School is progressive,
building on techniques and concepts with the Elements and
Principles of Design as the back bone of the curriculum.
By incorporating Art
History with a variety of mediums such as watercolor and
acrylic paint, sculpture, printing, drawing and weaving, it
can be demonstrated how these elements and principles are
utilized in defining the world of art. The curriculum not only
focuses on art production and history, but also on Art
Criticism and Aesthetics, establishing through exciting and
fun ways, a strong foundation in the Arts.
Computers
Our computer program finds the younger students concentrating
on basic computer knowledge, computer feature manipulation and
exploration. Word processing skills, Excel, Power Point,
research techniques and internet safety are all integrated
into the curriculum for the older students.
The computer classes are
designed to integrate what children are learning in their
primary classrooms with technology by all teachers working
together to achieve a successful melding of curriculums.
Computer projects and activities usually tie in with what
students are studying in their primary classrooms.
Music Program
Our music program focuses on singing correct pitches and
correct rhythms in the younger grades. A musical production is
also performed with all of the ancillary learning that
accompanies such an endeavor.
Our third through eighth grade
students are introduced to reading music and the study of
instrumental music. Third grade students learn to the
play the recorder. Violins are introduced in fourth grade.
The playing of saxophones, trombones and clarinets are added
to the to the fifth through eighth grade curriculum.
The
sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students begin learning the
principles of vocal production. Other areas of
study include composers, instruments of the orchestra, and the
American musical.
Auxiliary rhythm instruments are incorporated into all levels
of music study. All students are involved in performances
which demonstrate their skill level.
Spanish Language
The Spanish curriculum at El Dorado includes vocabulary and
grammar, practical conversational skills, literature, customs
and traditions of our neighboring country, Mexico, along with
movies and games in Spanish.
The overall goal of the
program is to motivate students while at the same time
providing them with a positive experience in a second
language, which is so essential in today’s society. After
completing the Spanish program at El Dorado, most of our
students test into the AP Spanish classes at the high school
level.
Physical Education
Our Physical Education curriculum promotes physical, social,
and emotional development. Students have opportunities to
learn life-lessons through a wide variety of activities. Along
with fundamental movements, emphasis is also placed on
self-confidence, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and leading a
healthy, active lifestyle.
Basic movement skills are
taught in the lower grades, and then enriched in the upper
grades through a wide variety of games and sports. Games are
used to develop coordination, agility and fair play. A wide
range of team and individual sports are gradually introduced
into the curriculum, and activities are taught according to
overall needs and readiness of the grade level.
The Middle School students
also have rock climbing, yoga and fitness training as part of
their curriculum. The Physical Education program is showcased
in the spring with our yearly Field Day activities.
